I
must admit that I was unaware that Louis de Bernieres had written
any plays, I, like most were aware of his award winning Captain
Corelli's Mandolin but not much else.
This play, set in Earlsfield on a Sunday
morning is a delight to watch, with delightful writing , a
multitude of characters ranging from old people, cats, foxes, even
a Chinese chip shop owner, and some characters from beyond the
grave, and a narrator to introduce each and everyone.
As
previous A1 productions I have witnessed, the cast of seven, Marc
Thomson, Mike Barlow, Nick Holbeck, Chris Moores, Kate Moores,
Annie Ormond and Zoe Roberts are well drilled in their acting and
particularly their characterisation by director John Cooper, and
the simple staging adds to the production rather than detracts.
So
go for an enchanting hour of entertaining theatre performed with
style by a talented company, don’t wait till Sunday morning get
your ticket now.
