Not Stalking David Tennant (Aka Having it All)

This production is split into 4 segments and is written and performed by young actress, Emma Hutchins. Each segment is a depiction of 4 different women, exploring their quest to improve their lives. Emma Hutchins is a brave young lady taking on the challenge of the solo performance.
The quality varies. The one non speaking part which draws upon Japanese physical theatre and dance didn’t work for me, nor did the first part, that of the successful, single career woman in phone conversation with her therapist. The timing with the voice over in the latter scenario wasn’t spot on. The sections that do show her talent as a writer are the fitness fanatic which was placed second and her finale, the character illustrating the title of the show. This was her most convincing section.
As a performer, she kept rigidly to the script. Perhaps a freer approach and really aiming to engage with the audience to draw them in would work better. The fitness fanatic routine could have been placed first, almost as a piece of stand up.
Emma Hutchins shows promise and it would be interesting to see how her career progresses.
