Another of the Theatre Tours International
incorporating Guy Masterson Productions is "Follow Me".
Ruth Ellis (Beth Fitzgerald) is sharing her last hours on death row
with us. We also meet Albert Pierrepoint (Ross Gurney-Randall) the
Executioner charged with the humane hanging of Ms Ellis.
From
the onset, the audience were addressed as if the females were prison
warders charged with her care and the men as her escorts to the
gallows.
I found this very disconcerting at first
but it suited the atmosphere of the piece perfectly.
Beth
Fitzgerald as Ruth began with a quiet dignity, which dissolved into
despair when she discovered there would be no stay of execution.
Ross
Gurney-Randall should know exactly what Pierrepoint is thinking at
any one time as he wrote the play. His matter of fact approach to
the subject matter is both fascinating and un-nerving.
These
two superb performances along with Guy's impeccable direction and
the amazing writing blend together in one of the must see shows of
Fringe 2007
