 It
has become quite the thing to take big screen movies and put them on the
stage and I was amazed that this film that heavily features fighter jets
and their dog fights should be attempted.
However,
it was, and it worked. At times I wondered if this was a true homage to
the film or a sustained attempt to take the... mickey, because it worked
on both levels.
An opening, worthy of the film itself
introduces the characters and the soundtrack is augmented with a live
guitarist as our hero 'Maverick' attempts to overcome tragedy, his
families dodgy past, rival pilots in an attempt to become Top Gun and
win the girl.
This
is certainly a very interesting and entertaining interpretation, I just
wish I could be sure of the motivation.
