For
years I have only know Janey Godley as an excellent stand-up comedian,
but this was not stand-up, this was a one woman play and she had written
it as well.
Set
in the Glasgow suburb of Carlton in the last years of the 1970's she
plays two characters, which are the opposite sides of the same coin, and
the one thing that divided them, simply the choice between saying yes or
no.
Ms
Godley plays both roles of course, as the characters tell their side of
the story, and of naturally some of the same characters and events crop up
in both. I really applaud the writing and characterisation that is built
into this production, and although there is a definite Glasgow feel to
the production, there is no danger of it being purely for a Scottish
audience.
