  The Time(less) Machine

****
Occasionally, you see a show which defies categorising into a particular genre and an artist whose talents cover the whole range of artistic expression. This is such a show and Sambor Dudzinski from Poland is such an artist. The whole production could be described as an experience. The unifying theme in this eclectic mix of music, movement and child like humour is the eternal power of love.
The first appearance of the Time(less) Machine is breathtaking as he peddles it into the auditorium. It looks like a penny farthing in shape. It is constructed from an old horse drawn plough and a bicycle. Attached is a keyboard and a vast collection of instruments and technical gadgetry. The creation itself is a work of art.
Sambor Dudkinsky’s cuts a dashing figure in frockcoat, britches, white hat and boots. Music is the essential component of his performance ranging from Chopin to percussive jazz. All manner of instruments are conjured up from this machine from the didgeridoo to the percussion loop. In addition, he has a beautiful singing voice.
As a finale, he involves the audience by creating a piece of music including words they have suggested and rhythms they have created using percussion instruments. This is sampled, put together and he sings on top of this backing. In this way, he has unified the whole audience in a unique composition.
I saw the show on its final night at the EICC. From 25th August to 30th August it moves to the Acoustic Music Centre @ St Brides. Full details appear on page 122 of the Fringe booklet.
