The Stand Comedy Club 26-11-2009 |
|||||||||||||||||||
It is the end of November dark and cold where
best to go to be cheered up and have a great laugh. Where else but the
Stand Comedy Club in Edinburgh. On this Thursday evening we had the
pleasure of Keir McAllister, Sian Bevan, Tara Flynn, Miles Jupp and our
host for the evening Bruce Devlin.
![]() Bruce is a great host he is able to asses the
audience quickly and normally able to verbally squash any potential
troublemakers in the audience. I just can’t put my finger on why Bruce
is such a great compere, but do love it when he is on. Even having seen
him several times each one is totally different.
Our first act was Keir McAllister. I’m sure
Keir has multiple personalities dependent on his facial hair. When he is
clean-shaven he is the cute funny guy next door that every girl would
love to go out with, as the stubble grows he develops in to a really
naughty bad boy with the evil twinkle in his eye and a wicked sense of
humour. My problem is I adore all of these aspects. On this particular
evening he was mid way between both and hilarious with it.

During the second section of the show we were
presented with two very talented young ladies. Firstly Sian Bevan whose
approach to comedy is along the vein of children’s TV presenter
utilising her teaching sessions as part of the material for her set. She
has a great finishing section and during this time she is definitely the
most pretty.
Followed by Irish bombshell Tara Flynn whose
Celtic crack rivals all her male compatriots, just going to prove what
Geoff and I have said for years, there are brilliant talented female
comedians out there. My advice to everyone out there is to see Tara if
you can for a master class in humour.
Our final act is the phenomenon that is Miles
Jupp, having just recently become a dad himself Miles has a whole new
twist to his set. He is still utilising his accent and playing the
‘posh’ card, which is what he is best known for, but the new
material adds an extra depth and maturity to his already superb set.
Once again the Stand Comedy Club has outdone itself. At the time of publication the website for the Stand has been experiencing problems, with the great festive programme during December this will be a great loss but line-ups and tickets can be found out and booked by telephone 0131 558 7272 or in person at The Stand Comedy Club, 5 York Place Edinburgh EH1 3EB. |
