 It was
a blustery Friday night at the end of January in Kirkcaldy, a far cry
from August in the Edinburgh Fringe when the show originally played, but
however cold it may have been outside, in the very busy auditorium at
the Adam Smith Theatre the comedy was hot, red hot ‘ cause
Scotland’s kilted comedy phenomenon Craig Hill was on stage giving
this Fife audience the chance to see a master at work.
As it
will come as no surprise to regular readers of this site, I did not get
to review Mr Hill during the Fringe, that privilege was snaffled by his
unofficial ‘Official Stalker’ Sheila so I was in for a tread as it
was all new to me.
From
his entrance accompanied by Madonna backing track to his finale some two
hours later Hill did what he does best, entertaining and engaging his
entire crowd with his own style of merriment. His interaction can be
gentle, occasionally bitchy, often self deprecating but never nasty. He
was even willing to share his stage briefly with Elaine a musical
theatre performer from Dunfermline in an impromptu duet.
Interplay
with the crowd, playing off one locale with another and generally making
everyone laugh is part of what makes people return time after time to
worship at his shrine, we recognised quite a few regular attendees in
the vicinity of our seats and his audience seems to get larger each time
we see him.
The
show this time boasts even a costume change, don’t worry it was still
a kilty outfit, is it Craig’s inner diva coming out, but the quality
of the fare was of the same high standard, and I defy anybody to have
left the theatre feeling disappointed or not having enjoyed themselves.
Craig
is always working hard so to see if he is at a venue near you check out
his website www.mrcraighill.co.uk
for details of forth coming gigs. I know his stalker will!!
