Blue Delta

There has been a bit of a buzz going round West Fife over the last few months that a new ‘covers’ band were on the go and just maybe there was something special going on.
Due to other commitments I had not been able to witness any of their earlier gigs, but finally on Saturday 12 December I managed to put that to rights.
Blue Delta is the bands name, a five piece combo fronted by husband and wife Mark Roberts and Lynsay Bennett who share lead vocals and are ably backed by Ian Craig on guitar, Jon McLuskey on bass and backing vocals and the rhythm master Scott Christie on drums and also backing vocals.
The proceedings got underway with a couple of ‘older’ numbers Runaway and Bye Bye Love featuring Mark, and he delivered these with the flare and skill of the hardened professional he has been for years.
Leanne Rimes & Eddi Reader numbers featured the vocal talents of Lynsay and how she has developed as an artiste over the few years I’ve known her is amazing.
The already fairly full room was being augmented all the time as the sounds filtered through the hotel drawing more and more into witness the gigs progression through 60’s rock, noughties singer-songwriters, 50’s rock and roll, even sweet soul thrown in as well. They are right, this band can cover anything and cover it well.
I brief pause for breath and the recharging of glasses and then it was straight back into the fray. KT Tunstall & Amy MacDonald from Lynsay, Mark leading on Showaddywaddy, Mud and Racey and there was by now a fairly full dance floor as well.
Taylor Swift, Charlene Spiterri, Blondie, Otis Redding, Bryan Adams, Pink and a extremely popular Queen medley where just some of the ports of call this fabulous five took us to on their musical journey and it seemed no time at all before the evening was drawing to a conclusion.
However, it wasn’t quite finished. Oh no! ACDC’s Whole lotta Rosie jazz style was introduced, featuring Jon on lead vocals. Okay, it was fine, but for me, an old rocker, not quite the thing, then it went back to the original and was a fitting way to bring the gig to an end.
So, is the word all hype? Are Blue Delta worthy of their growing reputation?
I will sum it up in one word of my own with three syllables. Fan-tas-tic!
Take my advise catch them if you can. You can check out future gigs at www.blue-delta.com
