The Beatles Christmas Party |

The Alhambra Theatre Dunfermline Monday 21st December 2009 |

It was the Monday before Xmas, everybody
getting into the festive spirit so what better than to have a retro
party at Dunfermline’s Alhambra with the ‘fab four’s’ music wall
to wall. Well in excess of two hundred souls were of the opinion that
this was the place to be.
The first tribute band was Dundee based
Revolver. Four young lads Ross, Ian, Nick and Michael soon had the
audience with them as they kicked off with Ticket to Ride swiftly
followed by 8 Days a Week. Sharing the vocals amongst them these smartly
turned out combo recreated the songs from long before they were even
born with a remarkable similarity to the original versions. Other
classics that were Love me Do, Drive my Car, If I Needed Someone, the
list goes on. It was a fully utilised set by a band with a lot going for
them.
A brief interval followed and then the stage
was filled with The Getback Band, a five-piece group consisting Kenny
McLean, Fox Amoore, Dave Benthall, Adam Bond Thomson and Dougie
‘Macca’ Orr. These high-energy quintet major on the McCartney angle,
running to several Wings numbers as well in there set. Such numbers as
Back in the USSR, Yesterday, Jet, Band on the Run, Long and Winding Road
and the seasonal Wonderful Xmas time were a selection of songs they
performed with verve.
Then suddenly, Macca was gone.
A few people thought the gig over, but hell no!
The gig was barely half finished. Enter Marcus Cahill, a John Lennon
look-a-sound-a-like who gave excellent renditions of Lennon based
Beatles material and a few of his solo numbers to boot.
Come Together, Imagine, Give Peace a Chance, I am the Walrus,
just a selection of the set he delivered. For me, always a Lennon fan,
this was the best part of the gig so far. But then entered once more Orr
and we had a further set with ‘Paul and John’ reunited.
Iconic numbers such as Hard Day’s Night, I
wanna hold your hand, Lady Madonna, Let it Be and not forgetting Hey
Jude were amongst the ports they called at prior to the finish some 3
hours after it all started. Certainly no one could complain about the
quality of the performances or value for money.
