I am almost positive a time machine exists and is masquerading as the Alhambra Theatre Dunfermline. Tonight Saturday 5^th December 2009 we were transported back to the early 80’s and the phenomenon that was ABBA entertained us for well over two hours in the guise of ‘ABBA MANIA’.

Since its formation in 1999 ‘ABBA MANIA’ has toured the world with their concert presentation of their unique celebration of ABBA’s music. Constantly touring with a 6 month residency in London’s West-End and an award winning season in Germany, ‘ABBA MANIA’ hit Fife with a vast explosion of glitter, feathers, flares and spandex and that was only the audience.

More than half of this near sell out crowd came as band members or squeezed in to their ‘MAMMA MIA’ costumes. From their first eagerly anticipated notes of music to their final bows some of this predominantly female audience hardly sat down. Choruses were sung along to and very little encouragement was needed for the audience to sing along, swaying, dancing and doing hand movements. Needless to say this audience had an absolutely fabulous time.

Agnetha (Carley Broom), Bjorn (Mark Thomas), Benny (Phil Hawkes) and Anni-Frid (Katy Summer) sing and perform scarily like the originals, their musicianship, choreography and vocals excellent. The set and costumes are so similar to those we see in films and TV clips from the 1970’s and 80’s it really seemed we had gone back to the height of the bands popularity. Performing all the better known hits plus one or two not quite so well known numbers this fabulous show took us through the bands history. Carley, Mark, Phil and Katy are supported on stage by Manolo Polidario on Guitar, Pablo Roberts on bass and Ryan Aston on drums. Their backing team include, Dan Tiley, Nick Jemicz, Huw Evans and Kathryn Harry. The original concept was devised by Stuart Littlewood and the Concert created by Mark Thomas who is also Bjorn.
