On a Christmas night out all most people want
is a really good meal lots of booze and some fun entertainment.
At the Stand Comedy Club in Edinburgh the menu
this Christmas is as follows:
Aperitif and wine from the Susan Morrison
vineyard, vintage and classical introductions and accompaniments for
each course. Whetting the pallet for all the varying flavours and
textures to come. Geoff and I have not seen Susan for some time and it
was great to have her back. She was faced with a rowdy Friday night,
office party packed Stand and controlled them masterfully.
Entrée in the shape of Stu & Garry provide
a starter more like a mezzo than the usual soup, prawn cocktail or pate.
Stu & Garry are more like Siamese twins in thought but not looks as
they seem to know exactly what the other is thinking. They tend to play
silly impro games when together and despite having female audience
members coming too quickly during “should have said!” had us joining
in all the time.
Although second on the bill Gary Little was
more like the pudding than the main course, holding your sides and
stomach screaming no more. Geoff and I have seen Gary develop his comedy
and stage presence, rising from small 5 minute slots up to the present
when he can certainly hold his own no matter what length of time he is
presented with.
The main course Dougie Dunlop despite being
tasted last, rounded off this festive menu beautifully. This local lad
may have deserted us for the big smoke, but despite living in London
seems to enjoy returning home to entertain us. Having seen Dougie before
we knew what to expect and we were not disappointed his comedy is very
tasty and left us comfortably full.
As for the actual food on offer Matthew has
certainly pulled out all the stops providing a small selection of superb
dishes each as tasty as the other the difficulty is in deciding what you
are going to have.
Our thanks again go to everyone who work so
hard to make the Stand experience so consistently excellent. For further
information and listings of what is on at both The Stand Edinburgh and
