Dream Maker Productions

Variety nights, wherever they may be staged, can occasionally be somewhat of a lottery, dependant on who is performing and what material is on offer.
Within minutes of taking my seat for this production any worries I may have had vanished. On reading the programme and saw that the performers were all renowned members of a variety of Fife based Theatre Companies, well it was obvious, it would be a good night.
The nine strong ensemble performed individually and together, playing to their strengths with musical theatre numbers, but interspersed with wickedly funny comedy sketches that had the whole audience in stitches.
Bill Blenman, who also performed a couple of traditional folk numbers, compered the evening and acted as sound engineer for the rest of his troupe, Claire Bloomfield, Steven Smyth and Irene Burt majored on the comedy, together with the multi-talented Jacquie Hannan who also sang like an angel on several numbers. Ms Hannan was also part of ‘The Dreamgirls’ with Lorraine Dobie and Kat Bowman. Ms Dobie and Ms Bowman also did their own solo numbers to great effect.
Fresh from his outstanding performance as Javert in Why Not? Musical Theatre’s production of Les Miserables, Joseph Hannan reprised the showstopper Stars and added Reviewing The Situation from Oliver, surely this youngster is a star of the future. David Mutch opened the show and shone throughout for me anyway, even above the rest of the stellar cast. Never afraid to challenge himself, he performed some standards together with musicals numbers, such as Gethsemane from JC Superstar, Bring Him Home from Les Mis, Why God from Miss Saigon and numbers from Pippin and Sunset Boulevard, as well as any professional I have seen.
And that was it and for all their 3 hour plus set was over far too soon. I can’t wait to see the very talented and entertaining artistes performing again soon. Some will be featuring in the Scottish Theatre Forums production of We will Rock You in June, check out www.scottishtheatreforum.com for details, and book your tickets while they are available, cause they’re selling fast.
Dream Maker Productions do all their work for charity so if you would fancy a fantastic evenings entertainment together with helping a very good cause the contact them at bill@blenman142.fsworld.co.uk or call Bill on 07970212060
