We have enjoyed watching Deep Blue
theatre over the last few Fringes with such shows as Chess, A
Chorus Line, Guys and Dolls and Cabaret so I must admit I was
really looking forward to seeing them in this Richard Maltby David
Shire cabaret musical Starting here Starting Now.
A slightly larger than usual cast of six,
Poppy Burton Morgan, Andrew Hollingbury, Lucy Page, Hannah
Richards, Anton Tweeddale and Eva Traynor introduce a whole host
of characters and situations that portray the progress of young
love and the gradual progression into the confusion that can arise
whist maturing.
Although there are few ‘showstoppers’
in this piece, I must saw I’ve always enjoyed it and this was no
exception. The cast gave a thoroughly professional performance, it
was skillfully directed by Laura Corcoran, choreographer by Keiran
Pugh and even though the cast were un-miked their voices filled
the auditorium never swamped by musical director Andrew Corcoran.
So, if you know the musical you’ll
certainly enjoy it, if not, go and see it anyway, you will
certainly struggle to see a better example of musical theatre this
Fringe.
