Schoolboy experiences form
the basis of Michael Mee's act. His opening is bright and funny as
he relates the pitfalls of putting a Christian name to his unusual
surname. Settling at an early age in Cork from Canada but of Irish
parentage, his accent made him stand out when he first attended
primary school. However, what made him unique was the self
discovery of his own high intelligence which was allied with
his tiny stature.
This period of his childhood
is full of humerous anecdotes and witty observations, such as the
effect on those around him of winning a national poetry prize
at the age of 9. His move to secondary school brought on onset of
bullying. Unfortunately, the comedy value of this period in his
life tends to drop away. Perhaps, an hour of schoolboy memories is
too long on the one topic.
Michael Mee has an easy,
natural wit. Indeed, some of his funniest moments come
spontaneously, for example, when he reacted to the noises offstage
from a nearby show.
An enjoyable experience.
