Glasgow
born comedian Keira Murphy is yet another one who is strutting her stuff
in the Laughing Horse Free Fringe with her show Lyre Bird.
A
Lyre Bird is an Australian bird which is famous for imitating other
sound in an effort to get mates.
Keira
is quite an actress and no mean mimic in her own right as well as being
a funny lady to boot, and she claims to be desperately seeking a mate
herself, so hence the clever show title.
Ms
Murphy is not an unknown quantity to me, however it is a couple of years
since I have seen her, and she was just as good as I remember. She has
stage presence, confidence and a whole raft of good, funny material in
her locker and a mentioned is quite a mimic able to produce such
characters as Mrs McKenzie, an ancient on Highland Radio, Stacey
Broon, a man-hating pub manager and even her own mother.
As
a finale she does a section on Irish curses as she thinks that we need
more scope in using them. She runs a few past us the invites the
audience to send her their best curses. If she gets enough , well
that’s next years show done for her and you never know you may be able
to claim a credit for part writing an Edinburgh Show.
As
part of the Laughing Horse Free Fringe there is no charge to get it, but
a collection bucket for you to fold your contribution in half before
placing it in there, the lady has to eat after all.
