The title of the Bodega Brothers
show is most apt. The Brothers, Rob Castell and Tom Sadler, walk on
stage with tea and biscuits. Their opening number is the show’s title.
Their version has the Starlight Vocal Band’s melody but their own
impish lyrics.
The comedy song is their forte.
They both play guitar and their harmonies are a delight. They choose a
variety of music styles to put their songs across. Rap and the rock
ballad, a la Meatloaf, feature strongly. The soul song to encourage the
Green Party to sex up their image for me is a real winner.
Between the songs there is a bit
of patter and audience banter. If members of the audience do well, they
can earn a biscuit. There is a purpose to the handing out of biscuits
because near the end Rob Castell does an improvised rap based on the
names of the biscuit winners.
An entertaining show full of invention.
