Tim Fitzhigham has a fascination for quirky
historical footnotes and recreating absurd journeys. When
Shakespeare was writing his plays, the superstar comedy actor of
Elizabethan times, Will Kemp, grabbed the best roles. Piqued that
there was no comedy role for him in Hamlet, how did he express his
disgust? He Morris danced his way from London to Norwich, 115 miles
in 9 days. Inexplicable!
This is the kind of challenge Tim
Fitzhigham finds irresistible. Can a show that features Morris
Dancing as the central theme work? Yes, and marvelously so.
Firstly, he had to learn the techniques and there are many to be
mastered. Dressed in the appropriate garb and with bells, he
demonstrated the skills he has learned.
He recounts his journey, blisters and all,
with slides and film footage which enhance the humour. Stories and
anecdotes are delivered with his accustomed fast and frenetic
delivery. He is such an enthusiast. It is difficult not to be
captivated and drawn into his bizarre world.
