The Big Value Comedy Show

The Big Value Comedy Show comprises of 4 young men aiming to give you bang for your buck.  Charlie Baker is your compere for the evening and he manages to get the crowd working with him pretty early on.  Unfortunately , all this good will is slightly eroded by the first act.  Paul F Hamilton seemed to struggle to bring a hearty laugh forth although he did have his moments.  His delivery seemed quite uncomfortable and gruff and some of his punchlines were simply lost.
After this disheartening start I was surprised to find that there was a 10 minute break, although I suppose any chance to move about in the sweaty cave of a venue was a relief to many.  Luckily the second half of the show picked up and provided most of the consistently funny material.  Baker won the crowd back with an entertaining re-creation of a cattle market.  The one thing he feels Edinburgh is lacking.  He obviously hasn’t been to any of the local nightclubs!
Stuart Hunter then entered and brought with him his unique brand of fairly disturbing material.  It was funny, but often veered very close to the line of what this audience found acceptable.  The closing act was Carl Donnelly, who proved himself to be the highlight of the show.  His delivery was laid back, confident and his material was of a high standard.  Definitely one to watch in the future.  A varying show but one which definitely ended on a high.
