Having become aware of Patrick Monahan a
couple of years ago when I saw him on a ‘Best of’ showcase and
decided to catch his full show last year and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Monahan is part Irish, part Iranian but
born and raised in Teesside in the North East of England. The first
few minutes of his material were based on his observations of a
bunch of Geordies and Glaswegians on a train to Scotland, which sets
the standard for his hour.
Patrick is one of the friendliest comedians
at the Fringe and one of the very few who does not use strong language
in his set, but that doesn’t take anything away from his talent.
He runs the gambit on material including binge drinking, the
inevitable Glasgow airport incident, hoodies and chavs, his mixed
ethnic culture, and the essentials for kids to go to school today.
As always the old maxim of leave them on a
song Monahan enlists two ‘volenteers’ to assist him in this
finale.
Pat is definitely a star for the near
future, catch him while you can.
