Mozart's Back |
||||||||||||||
Rainer
Hersche’s recreation of the life of Mozart is a rich blend of music,
comedy and theatre. He is joined on stage by two multi-talented ladies
who sing delightfully and play cello and piano. They also act out the
parts of the various women in Mozart’s life.
After a
musical duet by the two ladies to prepare the audience, Mozart makes his
grand entrance. Rainer Hersch takes confident control of the stage. His
material and delivery are strong and powerful. Mozart’s distaste for
those ‘expert ‘ biographers who have written millions of words
chronicling his life soon becomes evident and this is why he has
returned to put the record straight. His take on modern life is
hilarious, particularly mobile ring tones. Naturally there is musical
humour with the aid of the clavier.
Mozart’s
life from infant prodigy to death is outlined in word and song, all
three performers working beautifully together. Mozart’s Back is a
production of real quality and style sustained all the way through. It
should have a wider appeal than simply to lovers of Mozart’s music. On
leaving the auditorium there is no doubt in my mind that the audience
were well satisfied with what they had experienced.
