The Heretic |

After
the adverse publicity surrounding this show I was in two minds about
going to see it. It's not
that I'm totally religious nor am I anti-religion it is just my personal
reserve implanted through years of protestant ideology.
What
I saw was a man performing an interesting concept.
There are some humorous moments but for me no hilarity. The
premise of no religions holds some intriguing possibilities for a show,
some of which were displayed in this performance.
Thanks
to his tortured Catholic upbringing Tom creates his alter-ego Jesus
Murphy, a sort of Athe-Christ, an evangelical atheist who deconstructs
religion whilst creating his own demons. Which are scarier, those demons or gods ingrained by years of
teaching, or those created from the personal ideology.
Interesting
show and a superb performance from an obviously talented man.
