I wish I'd been a little more up for 'Doom
Riders' with the start of the obligatory Fringe cold, feeling tired and
not quite as much get up and go as usual.
The
small audience must have been of a similar frame of mind as the 4 Noels
had to work hard to win us over. Once it got going however we warmed to
the action and I actually left wanting to go through it all again.
These
three wonderful men play hundreds of characters in this gothic horror
spoof, well they actually all play four or five parts. Each character
sillier than the other and the amount of corpses on stage would have
delighted the most bloodthirsty body-snatching comedians around.
We
were kept constantly changing our point of focus over and over, but not
as many times or as frequently as they themselves. The writing if the
performance displays flashes of genius alternated with insanity and each
performance likewise.
On
second thoughts had the audience been totally up for the show and
joining in I think the Assembly would have had to ship all the loonies
to the asylum.
