Siân Docksey's Totally Casual and Freewheeling Mystic Comedy: Lemon Torpedo 3*** - One4Review

Siân Docksey’s Totally Casual and Freewheeling Mystic Comedy: Lemon Torpedo 3***

| On 26, Aug 2017

Each of the words in the title to Sian’s show have some relevance to the show, and signify something of what the show will be. Specific meanings are probably best explained by Sian herself at the top of the show.

Ms Docksey presents as relatively confident on stage, and although she commented ‘well that bombed, didn’t it?’ a couple of times, it didn’t seem to dim her own enjoyment of the whimsy or the show. Her delivery is fast but her diction is good, as are pace and timing. The lemon morph suit is certainly eye-catching, and shows commitment to the cause when it’s only used for one short element towards the end.

The show is by turns, silly, nonsensical, political, feminist, and weird, and at times there’s too much freewheeling and not quite enough structure to hold things together. The finale is a case in point: while fun, it seemed to have absolutely no connection with the rest of the show, and was thus a little confusing.

Some interesting and engaging opportunities for audience interaction, and a burgeoning awareness of the possibilities of non-sense make this show a not-unhappy way to spend an hour.
