Markus Birdman's Between the Devil & the Deep Blue Sea 4**** - One4Review

Markus Birdman’s Between the Devil & the Deep Blue Sea 4****

| On 19, Aug 2017

For many years Markus Birdman has been gracing the comedy scene so hence has a wealth of experience to draw on when he is constructing his funny and entertaining shows each year.
He is also a very good animator so there is always this talent interwoven into each performance too, not over used, so one always has that as a bonus as well.
There are no histrionics from this amiable performer, the audience work is not intrusive, the well-crafted material funny well delivered and on occasions thought provoking. The wide range of ages at the show got on board and stayed with him and is a testament to his appeal.
The animation tells the story, well sort of, of Rumpelstiltskin with added Trump and his daughter, yes really voiced by fellow comics such as Phil Nichol, Tom Stade and Lou Sanders, with the selling your soul for success message being carried through to Birdman the comedian to elaborate on worked well.
Okay the transitions back and forth probably didn’t ease the flow of the hour, but it seldom distracted from the enjoyment of the performance.
Stuck in a wee dark room on the Cowgate it is not the easiest of venues to find, but do so it’s well worth the effort.
